Hahaha! Now you've shared your food poisoning with the world! And I don't necessarily think that you're a squirrel, just because I'm a lion. I'm staying firmly neutral on that issue!

You captured our trip beautifully, friend! Idyllic Hvar with its 14th century piazza lit up at night, the gelato (Oh God, the gelato!), and gentle warrior, Inés, with her courage and humor. I can still hear her saying, as the bus rounded a bend to expose yet another mind-blowing view, “My friends, isn’t this AMAZING?” Yes, Inés, it was amazing.

So glad you skipped the part about me becoming violently ill from food poisoning in Venice. Being the lion you are you sprung into action alerting the front desk, arranging for a doctor to come to my hotel room, running to the pharmacy for meds. Everyone should travel with a lion.

However, I feel I must stand up for my fellow squirrels — it’s not that we’re indecisive; we just want to see and do EVERYTHING!

Looking forward to the next adventure.

I loved this so much—as a travelogue, with a tantalizing glimpse of your recent adventures, but also, and especially, as a meditation on getting up and going while the going is good. Thank you for a great read and for the inspiration to travel more!

Loved the Lion and Squirrel and of course Ines. What a memory. I can't remember what I did yesterday. Agree 'travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer.' That investment lives on forever - well, at least while we are this side of the earth.

What a beautiful story. Inés’ story is moving, and you are both lionesses.
